History of Gilliland Bros. Charolais

In the 1970's dad raised and showed purebred simmentals, but decided to sell the herd in the 80's when the breed trended towards taller leaner cattle. Since that time we tried several breeds of bulls for the commercial cattle and soon found the charolais breed to be by far the most profitable. This led us to purchase our first purebred females in 1996, and we began raising and selling bulls locally. We have always strived to select herdsires with a balance of style, sound structure, hair, good temperment, and of course performance. The purchase of Mastercard 2M was a huge stepping stone to the state of our program, and it led us to hit the show road with him and his progeny.

Our herd slowly increased in numbers over the years with the demand for Charolais bulls, and years later our cow herd consists of around 100 purebred females, many of which are horned and produce the performance we desire. Most of our breeding is done by walking bulls due large in part to a lack of time for heat detection. We feel the recent purchase of Dateline 754T will maintain our strong performance while producing stronger polled genetics. We consign bulls to the Alameda Bull Sale in late march, and the Cattleman's Classic at Virden in early April.

We are located on highway #18, 1.5 mile west of Carievale in the southeast corner of Saskatchewan. Please feel free in stop in anytime to view some cattle. We stand behind our Bulls, Customer satisfaction is our goal!
